Antibiotic Therapy

Empirical antibiotic therapy remains the cornerstone of enteric fever management. The choice of antibiotics depends on local resistance patterns. Fluoroquinolones, such as ciprofloxacin, were once the treatment of choice, but increasing resistance has led to a shift towards third-generation cephalosporins like ceftriaxone. In areas with multidrug-resistant strains, azithromycin has proven effective. Close monitoring of the patient's clinical response and potential side effects is crucial.
