Vector-borne diseases (VBDs) represent a significant burden on India's healthcare system. These diseases, transmitted by vectors such as mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas, have seen a surge in recent years due to factors like climate change, urbanization, and increased travel.
India, with its diverse climatic conditions, provides a conducive environment for the proliferation of vectors, leading to a high incidence of VBDs. Malaria, dengue, and chikungunya are among the most prevalent VBDs in India, causing significant morbidity and mortality. The World Health Organization reported that India accounted for 4% of global malaria cases in 2019, emphasizing the magnitude of the problem.
The fight against VBDs in India faces several challenges. These include inadequate surveillance systems, lack of public awareness, and gaps in vector control strategies. Furthermore, the rapid urbanization and climate change exacerbate the spread of these diseases.

Healthcare professionals play a crucial role in the prevention and control of VBDs. They are at the forefront of early detection and management of these diseases. Moreover, their role in educating the public about preventive measures is indispensable.
In conclusion, the rising tide of vector-borne diseases in India is a significant public health concern that requires immediate attention. A comprehensive and integrated approach, involving all stakeholders, is needed to effectively combat this challenge. Healthcare professionals, with their pivotal role, can significantly contribute to this fight against VBDs.
