As healthcare professionals, understanding the biochemical processes that maintain our patients' health is essential. One such process is bone metabolism, a complex interplay of various factors, with calcium playing a pivotal role.

Calcium: A Key Player in Bone Metabolism

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body, with 99% of it stored in bones and teeth. It is integral to bone metabolism, facilitating bone mineralization and providing structural integrity. The balance between bone formation and resorption, mediated by osteoblasts and osteoclasts respectively, is largely regulated by calcium homeostasis.

Regulation of Calcium Homeostasis

The body meticulously controls calcium levels through hormonal regulation involving parathyroid hormone (PTH), vitamin D, and calcitonin.
