Recent scientific investigations have explored the molecular and biochemical underpinnings of Mizaj, seeking to bridge traditional diagnostic frameworks with objective biomarkers. This review critically examines the current literature regarding Mizaj-linked biochemical biomarkers, focusing on their epidemiological significance, pathophysiology, risk stratification, clinical presentation, diagnostic validity, therapeutic strategies, recent scientific advances, and contemporary guideline recommendations. The integration of Mizaj with biochemical profiling promises more personalized and effective approaches for disease prediction, prevention, and management in clinical practice.
The Unani system of medicine, with roots in Greco-Arabic traditions, classifies individuals according to their Mizaj an individual's unique temperament based on the interplay of four qualities: hot, cold, moist, and dry. These temperamental types Damvi (sanguine), Safravi (choleric), Balghami (phlegmatic), and Saudavi (melancholic) are believed to predispose individuals to specific disease patterns and therapeutic responses. Contemporary research has begun to investigate the biochemical correlates of Mizaj, aiming to provide objective evidence for its clinical relevance. This review synthesizes emerging data, contextualizes findings within the broader framework of personalized medicine, and discusses their implications for clinical practice and research.
