Common disorders include Pituitary Adenomas, Hypopituitarism, and Hyperpituitarism.
Pituitary adenomas are benign tumors that constitute the majority of pituitary disorders. They can lead to an overproduction or underproduction of hormones, depending on the type of adenoma. While some are asymptomatic, others may cause headaches, vision problems, or hormonal imbalances.
Hypopituitarism is a condition characterized by a decrease in one or more of the pituitary hormones. It can result from pituitary adenomas, injury, inflammation, or certain genetic conditions. Symptoms can vary widely, depending on the affected hormone.
Hyperpituitarism, on the other hand, is characterized by an overproduction of pituitary hormones. It is often caused by pituitary adenomas. Symptoms can include acromegaly, Cushing's syndrome, or prolactinoma, depending on the hormone involved.
