Management of elevated liver enzymes depends on the underlying cause. For alcoholic liver disease, cessation of alcohol is the mainstay of treatment. In non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, lifestyle modifications like weight loss and exercise are recommended. Antiviral therapy is indicated for chronic viral hepatitis. In all patients, regular monitoring of liver enzymes is essential to assess response to treatment and disease progression.
Diagnosing and managing elevated liver enzymes requires a systematic approach. A thorough history and physical examination, coupled with appropriate diagnostic testing, can help identify the underlying cause. Management should be tailored to the specific disease process, with regular monitoring to assess treatment efficacy. By adopting this comprehensive approach, clinicians can effectively diagnose and manage patients with elevated liver enzymes.
