Deprescribing, the systematic process of identifying and discontinuing drugs in instances where existing or potential harms outweigh benefits, is also an important tool.
Modern healthcare technology can assist in managing polypharmacy. Electronic health records (EHRs) and clinical decision support systems (CDSS) can flag potential DDIs, aiding clinicians in prescribing decisions. However, these tools' effectiveness depends on their correct and consistent use.
Navigating the complex landscape of polypharmacy and DDIs is a crucial aspect of modern healthcare. Through proactive strategies like regular medication reviews and deprescribing, along with the effective use of technology, healthcare professionals can mitigate the risks associated with polypharmacy, enhancing patient safety and outcomes.
