Newer drugs targeted at specific IBS subtypes have emerged. For instance, Linaclotide and Lubiprostone, approved for IBS with constipation, work by increasing intestinal fluid secretion and transit. On the other hand, agents like Eluxadoline and Rifaximin are used for IBS with diarrhea, functioning by reducing bowel contractions and bacterial overgrowth respectively.
