An accurate history is the cornerstone of diagnosing vertigo. Key aspects include the onset, duration, associated symptoms, and triggering factors. A thorough neurological examination, including vestibulo-ocular reflex assessment, can help differentiate central from peripheral causes. Investigations such as audiometry, vestibular function tests, and neuroimaging may be warranted based on clinical suspicion.
Management of vertigo is multifaceted, encompassing symptomatic treatment, specific therapies for underlying causes, and vestibular rehabilitation. Medications such as vestibular suppressants and antiemetics can provide symptomatic relief.
