Their management requires a nuanced understanding of their pathophysiology, diagnostic modalities, and treatment options. This guide aims to provide a comprehensive overview of thyroid nodule evaluation.
Thyroid nodules are more common in women, the elderly, and individuals with a history of radiation exposure. While most are asymptomatic, some may present with compressive symptoms or thyroid dysfunction.
Initial evaluation typically involves thyroid ultrasound, which provides valuable information about nodule size, echogenicity, and vascularity. Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy, guided by ultrasound, can further classify nodules as benign, malignant, or indeterminate.
