IBS is characterized by recurrent abdominal pain, bloating, and altered bowel habits. Understanding the patient's symptoms, establishing a correct diagnosis, and tailoring the treatment plan are key to improving the quality of life of patients with IBS. Ongoing research in this field will likely provide additional tools for the effective management of this complex disorder.
