This scientific review explores how digital innovations, bioinformatics, machine learning, and telemedicine are revolutionizing traditional Ayurvedic practices, improving diagnostic accuracy, treatment personalization, and accessibility. Recent advances have provided significant opportunities for evidence generation, clinical documentation, and global integration of Ayurveda into mainstream healthcare. This article critically assesses the current technological landscape in Ayurveda, discussing epidemiological implications, mechanistic pathways, practical applications, and future perspectives relevant to clinicians and healthcare professionals.
Ayurveda, one of the world\"s oldest systems of holistic medicine, has been practiced for over 5,000 years. Historically reliant on textual traditions and practitioner expertise, Ayurveda has faced challenges regarding standardization, scientific validation, and global acceptance. The advent of technology, including electronic health records (EHR), mobile health (mHealth) apps, artificial intelligence (AI), and omics sciences, is redefining the scope of Ayurveda. These innovations are facilitating research, enhancing patient care, and enabling cross-disciplinary collaboration. This review aims to elucidate the intersection of Ayurveda and technology, offering clinicians an updated perspective grounded in current scientific evidence.
Chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and mental health conditions contribute substantially to global morbidity and mortality. Ayurveda offers unique preventive and therapeutic strategies, but its epidemiological impact has been historically underreported due to lack of systematic data collection. Technology now enables large-scale epidemiological studies through digital registries, mobile apps, and EHRs that capture patient demographics, interventions, and outcomes.
