Special attention is given to emerging therapies and expert guidelines, highlighting how dosha-specific interventions can optimize functional recovery, reduce disability, and enhance quality of life, particularly in chronic illness and post-acute rehabilitation settings.
Ayurveda, an ancient system of medicine, conceptualizes health and disease through the balance of three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Rehabilitation in Ayurveda extends beyond symptomatic relief, aiming for restoration of function and holistic well-being. Dosha-informed functional conditioning—an individualized approach integrating the patient’s constitution (prakriti) and imbalance (vikriti)—has gained traction for its potential to personalize rehabilitation strategies, particularly in musculoskeletal, neurological, and chronic disorders. This review synthesizes classical knowledge and contemporary research on dosha-based rehabilitation, offering practical insights for clinicians navigating integrative medicine.

Ayurvedic pathophysiology conceptualizes disease as a disruption in doshic equilibrium, manifesting as functional and structural derangements.
