Spirometry measures the speed and volume of air that patients can inhale and exhale, providing essential data on lung function. Interpreting PFT results requires a systematic approach. Begin by examining spirometry results to determine if a restrictive or obstructive pattern is present. Next, assess the severity of the lung disease through DLCO and body plethysmography. Finally, compare these results to patient's symptoms and history to reach a diagnosis.
