The field of Hepatitis management has seen significant advancements in recent years, with the introduction of innovative diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies. This article provides a succinct update on these developments.
Non-invasive diagnostic tools, such as transient elastography and serum biomarkers, have improved accuracy in staging liver disease. These techniques minimize the need for liver biopsy, reducing patient discomfort and potential complications.
Direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) have revolutionized Hepatitis C management, offering cure rates exceeding 95%. For Hepatitis B, the advent of nucleos(t)ide analogues has significantly reduced disease progression. The development of Hepatitis D and E specific antivirals is also underway, promising improved outcomes.
Progress in Hepatitis A and B vaccination has significantly reduced incidence rates. Moreover, the introduction of universal screening for Hepatitis B in pregnant women and subsequent neonatal vaccination has nearly eliminated perinatal transmission.
These advancements in Hepatitis management represent a paradigm shift, offering enhanced patient care. Further research is warranted to address remaining challenges, such as Hepatitis B cure and Hepatitis C prevention.
