Polypharmacy is often a necessary component of managing chronic diseases, especially in older adults. However, as the number of medications increases, so too does the risk of DDIs. These interactions can occur at various stages of the medication process, from absorption and distribution to metabolism and excretion. By understanding the potential for DDIs and implementing strategies to manage them, we can reduce the risk of ADEs and improve patient outcomes. As the prevalence of polypharmacy continues to rise, so too does the importance of this issue in healthcare.
