Various imaging modalities like X-rays, Ultrasound, CT, and MRI, each have unique principles and applications. Understanding the fundamental physics behind these techniques is crucial for accurate image interpretation. For instance, X-rays are excellent for imaging bones, while MRI provides detailed views of soft tissues. Knowledge of these basics allows physicians to select the most appropriate imaging modality for a given clinical scenario.
Identifying normal anatomical structures on imaging studies is a prerequisite to detecting pathological changes. For example, the ability to discern normal lung markings on a chest X-ray is vital before diagnosing conditions like pneumonia or lung cancer.
