Several glucose-lowering agents have demonstrated cardiovascular benefits. Sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists have shown to reduce major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes. These agents should be considered in the management of diabetic patients with high cardiovascular risk.
In conclusion, a comprehensive approach to the assessment and mitigation of cardiovascular risk in diabetic patients is essential. This includes a thorough evaluation of risk factors, implementation of effective risk reduction strategies, and the use of glucose-lowering agents with proven cardiovascular benefits. Regular follow-up and monitoring are crucial to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
