Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) management has seen significant advancements over the past few decades. This article aims to provide a comprehensive guide on the latest developments and best practices in its management.
Modern diagnostic tools such as endoscopy and urea breath tests have revolutionized PUD diagnosis. Endoscopy offers direct visualization and biopsy potential, while urea breath tests provide a non-invasive method to detect Helicobacter pylori, a primary causative agent of PUD.
Therapeutic advancements have largely focused on eradicating H. pylori and reducing gastric acid secretion. Triple and quadruple therapies, combining proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and antibiotics, have become the standard treatment.
