Moreover, the development of the Hepatitis B vaccine has been pivotal in preventing infection, with a global coverage of 84% in 2019.
The landscape of Hepatitis C management has been revolutionized by the introduction of Direct-Acting Antivirals (DAAs). These drugs, which target specific steps in the Hepatitis C virus life cycle, have shown cure rates exceeding 95%. Importantly, DAAs have a favorable safety profile and can be administered orally, making them a more patient-friendly option than previous treatments.
Despite these advancements, challenges remain. The global burden of Hepatitis remains high, with an estimated 325 million people living with chronic Hepatitis B or C. Moreover, access to treatment remains a significant issue, particularly in low-income countries. Therefore, future efforts should focus on improving access to existing treatments and developing new therapeutic strategies.
