The Pharmacologic Frailty Index (PFI) has emerged as a promising tool to quantify an individual\"s vulnerability to drug-related harm and to guide the personalization of medication intensity. The concept of a Pharmacologic Frailty Index offers a structured approach to assessing medication-related risks and optimizing therapeutic strategies. Ongoing studies are evaluating the longitudinal impact of PFI-guided medication adjustment on clinical outcomes, hospital utilization, and patient-centered metrics.
\nLeading geriatric and pharmacology societies endorse routine frailty assessment and medication review in older adults, advocating for the incorporation of tools like the PFI into clinical workflows. The American Geriatrics Society, European Geriatric Medicine Society, and NICE guidelines recommend minimizing polypharmacy, prioritizing non-pharmacologic therapies, and individualizing drug regimens based on frailty status.
