This review investigates the mechanistic basis, clinical applications, and recent research on Rasayana-supported functional vitality restoration, with a focus on the integration of evidence-based Rasayana interventions in modern medical practice. Epidemiological trends, pathophysiological mechanisms, risk factors, clinical features, diagnostic approaches, therapeutic modalities, and emerging therapies are discussed. The article synthesizes guideline-based recommendations and highlights future directions for Rasayana in clinical settings.
Functional vitality—encompassing physical performance, cognitive capacity, and resilience to stressors—is a key determinant of health outcomes, particularly in aging populations and those with chronic diseases. Rasayana, a branch of Ayurveda, refers to rejuvenative therapies intended to optimize tissue nourishment, slow degeneration, and promote longevity. While Rasayana concepts are rooted in traditional practices, recent scientific research has begun to elucidate their mechanisms, offering translational potential for complementary integration into evidence-based medicine. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of Rasayana-supported functional vitality restoration, aiming to inform clinicians about its scientific underpinnings, current evidence, and practical application in patient care.
Declining functional vitality is prevalent among elderly populations and individuals with chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders, and malignancies. Globally, the World Health Organization estimates that over 20% of people aged 60 and above experience significant functional impairment, contributing to increased morbidity, healthcare utilization, and reduced quality of life. The rising burden of non-communicable diseases and population aging underscore the need for interventions that restore vitality and mitigate frailty. In this context, Rasayana therapies are gaining attention as adjunctive strategies to address unmet needs in functional health optimization.
