Fertility health literacy is a multidimensional construct integrating knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to reproductive function and potential. Among young adults, accurate fertility knowledge is foundational for informed decision-making regarding family planning, contraception, and the timing of childbearing. However, research consistently demonstrates that many young adults lack a basic understanding of fertility physiology, age-related fertility decline, and modifiable lifestyle factors. This deficit has significant implications for reproductive health outcomes and the effectiveness of preconception counseling. Addressing fertility health literacy is increasingly recognized as a public health priority, warranting targeted educational strategies and systematic integration into clinical practice.
Globally, infertility affects approximately 8-12% of reproductive-aged couples, with increasing prevalence linked to delayed childbearing and modifiable risk factors.
